Counselling for Young People (Ages 10–14)
We provide counselling for young people aged 10–14, offering a safe and supportive space to explore challenges and build confidence. Sessions are available either face-to-face at our Petersham location or online via Zoom, whichever feels more comfortable for your child. In-person sessions are currently offered on Sundays.

Our Counselling Approach
The process of finding a therapist for your child can be daunting, which is why we do all we can to make parents and carers feel at ease with the counselling process. We are play-based, although of course we do talking too. Being play-based means that we also use lots of different techniques including expressive arts, sand tray and games. Our methods are evidence-based, developmentally appropriate and guided by the needs of the young person. Our approach is neurodiversity affirming and our priority is creating a space that is warm, welcoming and inclusive.
Our Counselling Space
Say hello to our clinic space in Petersham. Young people are free to move between the more 'grown up' counselling space and the play therapy room with sand tray and expressive arts facilities.

Counselling fees and rebates
Adolescents (Ages 10–14)
Individual Counselling (1 hour): $170
-
Adolescent sessions often involve creative and play-based approaches (such as expressive arts, sand-tray, or other hands-on methods). These require additional preparation and resources to ensure a safe and supportive environment, which is reflected in the session fee.
Rebates
Medicare rebates may be available with a GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan. Victims Services counselling is also available.
Frequently Asked Questionss
Do you offer Medicare rebates for counselling?
Yes. As an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, Karen can provide Medicare rebates with a GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan. Please contact us for more details about eligibility.
Is counselling confidential for adolescents?
Yes. Confidentiality helps young people feel safe to open up. We don’t share session details with parents without the young person’s consent, unless there are safety concerns. We do, however, keep parents updated on progress and general themes.
Can sessions be done online?
Yes. Counselling is available online via Zoom as well as in person at our Petersham location. Online sessions can be especially helpful for teens who feel more comfortable at home.
What issues do you support adolescents with?
We commonly work with anxiety, trauma, body image concerns, peer difficulties, life transitions, school-related stress, and self-esteem. Every young person’s needs are different, and we’ll tailor our approach to suit them.
